Giant Ornamental Onion Globemaster (Allium hybrid Globemaster) stands out for its enormous, dense, perfectly rounded spheres of purple-violet flowers, which can exceed 20 cm in diameter. Carried on sturdy stems reaching 80 to 100 cm in height, they create a remarkable architectural effect and immediately draw attention in the landscape. Its flowering period, from May to June, remains decorative for several weeks, while its blue-green foliage elegantly accompanies the emerging flower stems. Hardy to Zone 4, this perennial bulb brings a majestic presence to well-drained Quebec gardens.

Plant the bulbs in fall at a depth of 15 to 20 cm, spacing them 25 to 30 cm apart. Globemaster prefers full sun and light, fertile, perfectly drained soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Water lightly after planting, then moderately during active growth, allowing the soil to dry between waterings. A light application of compost in spring is generally sufficient to support flowering. After blooming, allow the foliage to turn yellow and dry completely before removing it so the bulb can replenish its reserves for the following year.

Ideal for large flower beds, contemporary gardens, prestigious plantings, and naturalistic landscapes, this allium creates a spectacular focal point without making arrangements feel heavy. It pairs especially well with peonies, sage, catmint, coneflowers, and ornamental grasses, which highlight its impressive flower stems. Its nectar-rich flower clusters attract bees, butterflies, and many other beneficial insects, helping support garden biodiversity. The flowers are also exceptional in fresh or dried bouquets, while the heads left standing in the garden extend ornamental interest for several months.
