Allium Moly Luteum

Golden Garlic (Allium moly Luteum) brightens the garden with charming clusters of golden-yellow, star-shaped flowers that appear from May to June. Its vivid blooms stand out beautifully against the blue-green foliage and create a striking contrast with plants in green or silver tones. Reaching only 20 to 25 cm in height, this perennial bulb forms compact clumps that fit easily into small spaces. Extremely hardy to Zone 3, it reliably returns year after year and can gradually form beautiful flowering colonies in suitable locations.

Plant the bulbs in fall at a depth of approximately 8 cm, spacing them 8 to 10 cm apart. Golden garlic prefers full sun and light, rich, perfectly drained soil with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Water lightly after planting, then moderately during active growth, allowing the soil to dry between waterings. Once established, it tolerates dry periods very well and requires little maintenance. A light application of compost in spring is generally sufficient. Always allow the foliage to turn completely yellow before cutting it back so the bulbs can replenish their reserves.

Thanks to its compact size, this allium is ideal for borders, rock gardens, sunny flower beds, containers, and naturalistic gardens. It can also fill spaces between perennials beautifully and gradually form luminous golden carpets over the years. Pair it with rock cress, bellflowers, catmint, sedums, or lavender to create colourful and long-lasting displays. Its nectar-rich flowers attract bees, butterflies, and many other beneficial insects, adding valuable ecological interest to this easy, hardy, and generous plant.
